JAVA NOTES Concert Series is proud to present Joe Jencks!  Local Musician D.P. Knudten is opening up Joe's show!

Proceeds from this concert benefit Habitat For Humanity.

Joe Jencks is an international touring performer, songwriter, entertainer, and educator. From concert halls like the Lincoln Center in New York, to coffee houses, festivals, spiritual communities and schools, Joe Jencks has spent the last seven years touring full time. His music has traveled to every continent. He has earned respect for his unique merging of musical beauty, social consciousness, and spiritual exploration. Joe weaves a diverse web of stories with brilliant musical skill, ensnaring even the most rigid of hearts, inviting them to open. He has enthralled audiences of all ages with songs that touch the human spirit, lend courage and hope, and invite us to fully live inside of our passions and our beliefs.

“The key to the future is people joining in. The music of Joe Jencks captures this essential spirit. Joe is a fantastic singer who carries on the traditions.” -Pete Seeger

Like a good craftsman, Joe applies the skills of his well-rounded conservatory training to a contemporary genre, and offers the listener the best of both worlds. Drawing on his Irish heritage in the process, Joe uses his lush and lyrical voice to enchant, heal, and inspire to action. Joe has won numerous songwriting awards for his original work, and is also highly regarded as a song interpreter. “He has a remarkable tenor voice that’s capable of great strength and sweetness in the same moment, much as was Phil Ochs’ voice. His guitar is always a dead-on accompaniment to his songs’ intentions.” “Bill Fischer, Victory Music Review

Java Notes will present a series of coffeehouse concerts, these evenings will be designed to raise funds for local non-profit organizations. The first season will run from January to November of 2008, excluding June, July and August, on the second Saturday of the month. Each evening will feature a different folk music performer, equal exchange (fair trade) coffee and hot chocolate, and desserts. A share of the proceeds from admissions and refreshments will go to the partner organization of the evening.>

>
Java Notes has selected 4 non-profit organizations to serve as partner organizations for the first season:>

>
1. The Boys and Girls Club of Dane County provides low-income children with the tools they need to succeed in life.>

>
2. Habitat for Humanity is an international organization which enlists community support to help low income families build their own homes.>

>
3. Luke House of Madison is a community meal ministry that feeds approximately fifty homeless persons each evening. Although it is currently on hiatus from providing a monthly meal, SPUMC has had a longstanding relationship with Luke House and fully supports its ministry.>
